Recent work: Blog post for Heymama

I’ve been following delicious new mommy blog Heymama religiously over the past few months, so I was over the moon when they approached me to write a little something about my experience as a new mom. Go read it here and don’t forget to browse their online store – it’s to die for.

Recent work: Table talker for Chelsea Café

Chelsea Café is a wonderful hidden gem out in Somerset West. This delightful coffee shop and restaurant offers a variety of farm-fresh fare and wanted to provide their clientele with some insight regarding the origins of their ingredients while they enjoy their meal. I whipped up the content for the table talker and Bia van Deventer designed the lovely layout.

Recent work: Web content for De Warenmarkt

Inspired by the Cape of Good Hope’s legacy as trade post along the maritime route that led to the alluring Spice Isles, De Warenmarkt is situated in a cherished 18th century historical building at the heart of Stellenbosch’s vibrant cultural district. This brand new market features a range of delectable speciality meats, cheeses, baked goods, craft beer, coffee, fresh produce & more.

I was asked to create some sumptuous copy to populate their brand new website. Go read it here and then make a plan to head out to Stellenbosch to visit this wonderful spot as soon as possible.

Recent work: Blog posts for Jan Hendrik

Yes – that’s THE Jan Hendrik who recently did South Africa proud by being awarded a coveted Michelin star. I started working for JH two years ago when I helped him rework the content for his website, and since then we’ve collaborated on his latest recipe book, as well as weekly blogs.

So, what does that mean – collaboration on a written piece? In short: JH jots down the gist of what he wishes to convey and I dress it up to read nicely. The trick to this kind of ghost blogging is to keep your personal voice out of it. In the time JH and I have worked together I’ve determined his preferences and developed a standard ‘sound & feel’ for all of his work.

You can read the blogs here. Props to Inemari Rabie for the delicious design work on the site!

Recent work: Keyword-rich blog for Techniline (Dubai)

I recently hitched my content writing wagon to the fast-faced online marketing locomotive that is Neesh (a digital agency in Dubai). I’ve been preparing keyword-rich blogs for a cigar purveyor, bakery, and music store respectively.

What I love most about guest blogging is that it forces you to immerse yourself in a world of research that you might not have pursued of your own accord. For instance – while writing a blog about prolific cigar smoker Winston Churchill I learned that he fought in the Anglo-Boer war and was actually taken prisoner over here in good old RS of A. Who knew?!

Here’s a link to one of the first Neesh blogs to see the light of day – a light little piece on staying motivated when you start a new instrument for Techiline Music Store.

Recent work: Web Content for Rootz Farm Store

Rootz Farm Store is a Paleo-friendly bakery in New York. Their website needed some copy that spoke with the happy, contented voice of its founder, Kim Wellington. I assisted by creating some delicious content, learned quite a bit about Paleo baking in the process and now crave Coconut Macaroons pretty much constantly. Go have a look at their awesome products hereRootz

Recent work: Web content for Refinery

I hate shopping. I really do. But I have to admit that I am pretty stoked that a new season is almost here, because there is a new retail player in town and it seems even I will be able to find something to get excited about at a price that won’t make me want to cry in my pants.

In a time of unprecedented media clutter and pop-culture noise, Refinery is an authentic, honest fashion retailer that caters for today’s inspired young adults. They’ve eliminated everything that is non-essential and instead focus on providing affordable, on-trend style solutions that will stand the test of time.

And I got to do their web content alongside the fabulous blokes from The Suits. Go see the website here (try not to get too distracted by the sensational threads) and give my first blog attempt for this brand a read if you have a moment. Such a rad project!

So hiermee nou ‘n skaamtelose, vieslike klein brag. Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen (wat onlangs ‘n Michelin-ster verwerf het) se tweede kookboek ‘JAN – A Breath of French Air’ / ‘Jan – My Franse Kosverhaal‘ is op die rakke en ek het elke woord daarvan na Afrikaans vertaal. Jip, no jokes.
